2020 Ford Transit Hybrid Design

The hybrid variant will carry over the design elements of the regular variant. Its exterior and interior will be mostly the same as the regular variant. In other words, it will be a comfortable vehicle for both personal and commercial uses.

The Ford Transit lineup made its debut back in 2014. Since it has been a few years, the lineup is due for mid-cycle refreshes. And that’s exactly what the 2020 Transit gets. Of course, that includes the hybrid variant as well.

Just like most lineups getting their mid-cycle refreshes, the Ford Transit Hybrid comes with all-new headlight designs and grille. There are also new interior surfaces and colors, upgraded grab handles, as well as swiveling seating for the 2020 models.

The 2020 model also comes with various configurations such as chassis-cab, passenger, cargo, cut-away, and the new crew van configurations. This crew van is a combination of cargo and passenger van. It can accommodate 5-passengers while at the same time, providing enough cargo space on the rear.

Engine and Performance

Alright, now let’s get into what is under the 2020 Ford Transit Hybrid’s hood. The hybrid van is powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated with an electric motor with a power of 93kW. 12V Epower pack that adds up about 6kW is available as optional.

What makes this hybrid van unique is that the 1.0-liter engine is there to recharge the van’s 13.6kWh Li-ion battery pack. When the battery is fully charged, the Transit Hybrid van is said to be able to cover around 56 kilometers. It is said that if the van has a full fuel tank and a full battery, it can go over 500 kilometers. It takes about 2 hours 40 minutes to recharge the battery using a type-2 fast charger.

Tech, Features, and Safety

Hybrid variants are often come equipped with the same tech and features as their gasoline/diesel counterparts. The tech and features of the 2020 Transit haven’t been revealed yet but we can expect more or less the same tech and features that the gasoline Transit has.

Tech and features such as Wi-Fi capability, cargo door with a power-sliding feature, a 4.0-inch display with SYNC infotainment system (a larger alternative, an 8.0-inch infotainment display should also be available), as well as software for fleet management should be available.

All vehicles require active safety tech, especially ones that are being used as both personal and commercial purposes like the Transit van. This is why Ford equipped the 2020 model with various safety tech and features.

The gasoline and diesel variants have active safety tech like automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and pre-collision warning system, among others. For the passenger variants, there is also Ford Co-Pilot360 which comes with rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring, adding even more safety.

2020 Ford Transit Hybrid Release Date and Price

Both the release date and pricing of the upcoming van haven’t been confirmed by Ford yet. The current report suggests that the 2020 model will enter the market in late 2019, though the exact date is not yet known.

For the price, it shouldn’t differ too much from the regular version. The regular Ford Transit is sold in the $20,000-$30,000 range. The upcoming hybrid should be in the same range, considering the only major difference is the engine.
