2021 BMW M4 Redesign
At the moment, the details regarding the design are still scant. What we know for sure is that the upcoming M4 is going to be different from the base 4-series. How different? At the least, there will be as many differences as the current model is.
Since the design of the forthcoming M4 will be different, we can expect it to have design elements like 19-inch or larger wheels and tires, diffusers, spoilers, gaping air intakes, flared fenders, and bulging hoods. Also, similar to the current generation, the New M4 will have exclusive trim and color options. Its instrument cluster will reflect the racing heritage of the lineup.
Under the Hood 2021 BMW M4 Concept: a Twin-turbocharged Engine
What is under the hood of the New BMW M4? It has been revealed that the upcoming M4 will be powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged inline-six S58 engine. The base model is estimated to have an output of 473 horsepower with up to 442 lb-ft of torque while the competition models are estimated to have a whopping 503 horsepower.
The engine is likely to be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox as the standard.A 7-speed, dual-clutch auto transmission gearbox is likely to be available as well. For the drivetrain, both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive systems will be available. With the all-wheel-drive drivetrain, the new M4 should be able to have 0 to 60 mph time of three seconds.
The ‘Pure’ Model with Manual Transmission
BMW promised that the new M4 will return to its roots. The return-to-the-roots model is known as ‘Pure’ although it is not its official name. This model will have not just a manual transmission but also a rear-wheel-drive-only drivetrain as well.
It is said that the ‘Pure’ model will have different front- and rear-ends as well as less power output. The reason? Because the automaker doesn’t have the right manual gearbox available that can handle the full power of M4.
This ‘Pure’ model will be amazing for M4 fans who have longed for a model that returns to the basics. It should offer more than just nostalgia value, obviously. At the moment, other than its transmission and drivetrain, nothing is known about this model. We have to wait for further details from BMW.
Various Versions
There will be various versions of the 2021 BMW M4. Of course, there will be more powerful models. BMW has a habit of releasing the more powerful versions in the following months after the base model. We can expect the same for the M4 as well.
While the base model may be available in 2020, its more powerful versions, particularly the M4 Competition, are very likely to enter the market in 2021. And as usual, the later models will not just be more powerful but also come with less unnecessary fluff as well.
According to BMW’s M division, Markus Flasch, there will be high-performance models for the M4. And these high-performance models will be powered by a brand-new S58 engine. For the M4 fans, it will surely worth the wait.
Flasch also mentioned that M4 will have more special edition models coming after the standard model. At the least, there will be ‘Pure’ M4, CS M4 and GTS M4. He called these models ‘Zundermodelle.’ What kind of cars these variants will be? Only time will tell.
2021 BMW M4 Release Date & Pricing
2021 BMW M4 will be available somewhere in late 2020 or beginning 2021. In terms of pricing, the New M4 will have the same price range as its sibling, the 2020 M3. The price is around $70,000 for the base model. In this price range, the new M4 will compete against Lexus’ RC F, Audi’s RS5 and Mercedes’ C63. It will be an interesting and tough competition for the forthcoming M4 as these three vehicles use the basic concept of the M3.
That’s what we know so far about the forthcoming BMW M4. We expect it to be a nice car. From what has been revealed, it seems to have a modern and sleek design, a powerful engine, and an abundance of features. What do you think?
