2020 VW Polo Concept

2020 VW Polo: What We Know So Far About the Upcoming Polo – Do you like the Volkswagen Golf but don’t like its size? If you do, you may want to check out Volkswagen Polo. It is a hatchback, just like the Golf but it is a bit smaller. The Volkswagen Polo lineup is going to have a new iteration soon. That’s right. There will be a new one: the 2020 VW Polo. Want to know more about the upcoming Polo? Just read on.

2020 VW Polo Redesign Exterior & Interior

If you are waiting for the VW Polo lineup to get a facelift, we got good news for you. That’s right. Volkswagen facelifts the Polo lineup and we will see it in the upcoming VW Polo. The overall design may stay the same, but there will be lots of subtle changes here and there. These subtle changes probably include GT-inspired front and rear bumpers and a new headlight, among others.

Interior

Unlike the exterior, there is nothing much known about the interior. While no one knows how the interior will look like, we can expect that the interior of the VW Polo is going to be comfortable and roomy. Why? Because the current VW Polo’s interior is like that. Inside, there is enough room for everyone to sit comfortably.

For the style, we don’t expect too much from it. More likely than not, the style of the interior will be similar to other VW’s cars. In the 2019 Polo, angular and crease-edged shapes are the rules. The 2020 Polo is likely to inherit that.

Engine Specs

What engines will be available for the 2020 VW Polo? At the moment, the Polo lineup has four engine options:

  • A 1.0-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine, with an output of 75 hp with 95 lb-ft of torque
  • A 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, with an output of 90 hp with 230 lb-ft of torque
  • A 1.2-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, with an output of 103 hp wit 175 lb-ft of torque
  • A 1.5-liter, inline-four turbocharged diesel engine, with an output of 108 hp with 250 lb-ft of torque

The first engine is the base engine, the second is optional and the last two engines are available only on the GT TSI and GT TDI trim levels. The first two engines are paired with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox while the third engine with a seven-speed auto transmission gearbox and the fourth engine with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.

What about the 2020 Polo? Most likely, the upcoming Polo will come with the same engine options. So far, the engines have been able to handle daily tasks thrown at them. Some tweaks to make them powerful are always possible but whether there will be any tweaks, we don’t know about that yet.

Polo GTI

It is a fact that Volkswagen produces a lot of high-quality vehicles. The Polo GTi is among the most well-known one. Are you a fan of the Polo GTi lineup? Brace yourself. The lineup is going to have a new member soon. That’s right. Soon enough, we will see the 2020 VW Polo GTi. What kind of hatchback will it be? Read on and you will know.

The test mule of the upcoming Polo GTi has been spotted in Germany. Wrapped in a camouflage vinyl, the new hatchback seems to have chunky bumpers at its front and rear ends, a roof spoiler, sporty side skirts, as well as a honeycomb grille at the front.

Compared to the current Polo GTi, the test mule’s LED headlights look smaller and slimmer. Although the mule is camouflaged, you can just see its honeycomb grille has a red trim. There is also the GTi badge and a sporty-looking front bumper under the grille. It is a nice look for a hatchback.

Does the sporty look end at the front? Nope. You can see the sportiness of the mule on its sides as well. There are large alloy wheels and blistered wheel arches. Not to mention its low ride height which makes the upcoming hatchback even sportier.

On the rear end, the mule’s LED taillights seem different from the current hatchback. There is also a rear bumper with rather subtle styling. Just like the current Polo GTi, there are two exhaust pipes, one on each side.

Interior of Polo GTi 2020

Although no one knows how exactly the inside of the upcoming Polo GTi looks like, we do have high expectations of it. More likely than not, the hatchback’s selling point is its usability for daily routines. This we should see on the interior. Features such as an upgraded infotainment system, voice-activated Apple Siri, and others, are likely available.

Being a hatchback, large interior space is a must as a hatchback is often used as a daily driver. For the 2020 model, the interior space should be larger than the current model. So, expect a slightly larger legroom on the new Polo GTi.

Polo GTi Engine

At the moment, there is no official release about what will be under the hood of the 2020 VW Polo GTi. More likely than not, Volkswagen will not change the current engine.  Our guess is that the 2020 Polo GTi will be powered by the same engine as the current Polo GTi, considering that the engine is quite reliable.

In the current model, the base model is powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an output of up to 255 horsepower. This output is decent for a hatchback. The TCR model, on the other hand, is powered by the same engine but with more output: 290 horsepower. We are likely to see a similar trend in the upcoming Polo GTi.

Will it be the same 2.0-liter gasoline engine? Probably not. We expect the manufacturer will give the engine some upgrades or tweaks to make it powerful. Also, an electric motor is not off the table for the upcoming Polo GTi. Such a motor can improve the hatchback’s fuel efficiency as well as boosts its performance.

Features

In terms of features, the 2020 Polo will carry over the features of the 2019 Polo. Features such as an 8-inch infotainment display, blind-spot monitor, radar cruise control, switchable dampers, park assist (with braking and steering assist), rear cross-traffic alert, various connectivity (such as Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay), LED headlamps, and WiFi should be available.

Will the features stay exactly the same? Not likely. We expect some of the features will get updated and upgraded. For example, lane-keeping for the radar cruise control may be added considering many of its competitions have it now. Update for the infotainment system is also possible as well.

2020 VW Polo Release Date and Price

Unfortunately, both the release date and price haven’t been announced yet. At the moment, what we can do is to guesstimate. For the release date, considering that it is meant to be a 2020 model, we can expect it to be released in either late this year or early 2020. It is also possible for the new VW Polo to be released in the mid-2020, but we think it is unlikely.

For the price, we expect it to have the same price range as the current VW Polo. The current VW Polo’s starting price is around $20,000. The starting price of the upcoming VW Polo should be more or less the same but expect a slight increase.
