2020 Toyota Prius Test in Snow

with the New AWD-e System, the 2020 Toyota Prius is becoming more versatile and reliable in various track conditions. Who doesn’t know the Toyota Prius? The lineup is very popular. It is among the most well-known lineups from Toyota in the U.S. and possibly, worldwide.

Soon enough, we will see a new member in the lineup: the 2020 Toyota Prius. While the new Prius hasn’t been released yet, much has been known about it. What to know more about the upcoming Prius? Just read on.

Design

Will we see a redesign for the new Prius? The answer is no. This is because Toyota has refreshed the lineup with the 2019 Prius. Usually, a lineup will get a refresh every few years or so. With the refresh being so close, the 2020 Prius is very unlikely to get a refresh. If anything, it will be a carryover model which carries on most of what the 2019 Prius has.

The lack of changes is not something to be frown upon, though. The most significant refreshes are the toning down of both front and rear ends, which make the Prius less polarized and other new technological features. The 2020 Prius, of course, will carry these over. Do expect some changes here and there that will make the 2020 Prius more comfortable, looks more modern and sophisticated.

What about the inside? More likely than not, the 2020 Prius will come with piano-black accents, a steering wheel with a heating system (available on higher trim levels), scratch magnets center console, two USB chargers, a wireless charging pad, and others.

Engine Specs

Next is about the engine. What engine will power new Prius? Just like the design, more likely than not it will carry over what the 2019 Toyota Prius has. In this case, under the hood, the 2020 Toyota Prius will be powered by a 1.8-liter, inline-four engine that will be paired with an electric motor. This hybrid engine should be able to deliver up to 121 horsepower.

The standard models will come with the front-wheel-drive system. The all-wheel-drive system should be available as optional. Compared to the front-wheel-drive system, the all-wheel-drive system is slightly powerful. It has additional 7 horsepower thanks to an electric motor mounted on the rear axle.

Safety

Toyota has put its focus on its vehicles’ safety lately. Of course, the Prius’ safety is not an exception to that. The 2020 Prius is going to come equipped with Safety Sense P safety technology. This technology includes features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency brakes (with a sensor which can detect pedestrian), auto high-beam headlights, lane departure warning system, and lane keep assist, among others.

2020 Toyota Prius Configurations

Not much is known about the trim levels that will be released for the upcoming Prius. But, the 2020 Prius will likely continue to use the same trim levels and naming as the 2019 Prius. In other words, there will be four trim levels. Namely, L Eco, which is the base trim level, LE, XLE, and the highest trim level: Limited. Among the four trim levels, the L Eco will be the cheapest while the Limited will be the most expensive.

Just like any other lineups, the higher the trim levels, the more features, the more powerful engine, and the more amenities a model will come with. In the Toyota Prius case, even the standard model, the L Eco, comes with various standard features, decent engine, and enough amenities to ensure comfort for every passenger. The 2020 Prius is expected to be like this.

2020 Toyota Prius Release Date and Price

The exact date of release for the upcoming Prius hasn’t been announced by Toyota yet. That being said, we expect the 2020 Prius to be released somewhere in October this year. This is because it is designed to be a 2020 model, so either it is released late this year or early next year.

As for the price, the price range should remain the same with a slight increase. We expect the price range will start from $24,800 to $30,000. Not many things will be different for the new 2020 Prius, so the price range should be similar.

Those are the latest news about the upcoming iteration one of Toyota’s most well-known lineup. In short, the 2020 Toyota Prius will be a carryover model. It will keep most things that the 2019 Toyota Prius has with only slight changes here and there.
